The light on my DVD drive is left continuously flashing and the drive is frozen. Windows then freezes if I try a shutdown or restart, so I have to use the power-down button. Only after shutdown and restart, the drive is OK again but it's still running the old firmware version. I've had this problem even when trying previous verions of the upgrade. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?
Rock said:. Click to expand Thanks Namuk, The serial number on my drive is: HS Model number: ADA When you say that the firmware file may be damaged, do you mean the update file I downloaded, or some file in the drive itself may be damaged and cannot be modified?
I've tried other previous releases of the firmware update and I get the same error. Last edited: Sep 29, ZIP which is on the official site, so it would be an original and untampered file. I ran it with antivirus disabled, even in safe mode and in normal mode with all the background software disabled, and the update still fails.

I'm a bit confused over which firmware to download for my drive, as there seem to be four diffferent ones for version 1. By dontasciime , February 5, in Chat. Alright fella - could you not change the booktype with ImgBurn then? From the pic you hadn't selected the change book type drop down and I wondered if that would then un-grey the change button?
This was not acceptable to me, the screen shot was to demonstrate wtf at having changes available which i have never seen before, which lead to the scans etc for info on drive.
I flashed it about 2 Min's after installing it, on that note anyone else with this drive wishing to flash, boot into safe mode in xp to flash, also if connected via IDE knock drive into pio mode, if not either of these can cause a firmware checksum error, I flashed mine whilst in external via USB2 in safe mode. An update on this, I flashed drive to as mentioned above and have tested various media, I have a few other writers that are capable of writing to ram disc's, The other drives and the panasonic ram media i got from Svp would only write at most 1.
I hope anyone interested knows what i mean. My Pioneer worked fine, as did my LG. Not sure if I tested my LiteOn. The NEC failed every single time though. If the verify fails, the data is wrong - end of story!
Of course you can double check by repeating the verify via the standalone method and seeing if the errors are in the same places. View solution in original post.
I am running Win 7 Home Premium. I have used the fixit, and regedit and all methods. The fixIt keeps saying the media is not writable but I have made sure the media is writable. There seems to be no other driver or firmware that dell offers on this.

Well I'm truly baffled at your insistence that I get a driver from the manufacturer for Windows 8.
